Ovens
Ovens are an essential part of a restaurant or small business. Sometimes a malfunction in your oven can hold up your services and cause you to lose valuable money while you wait for a repair. Let us do you a favor and fix your oven so you can make your customers happy. Here are some of the common problems that an oven may have issues with.
Incorrect oven temperature
A common problem you may find with your oven is incorrect oven temperature. If your oven is showing a number higher than you set it to or your food starts to overcook easily, this may be the problem with your oven. To fix this, all you will need is your owner’s manual. Inside of your owner’s manual, it will tell you how to recalibrate your oven temperature. This can usually decrease or raise the temperature of 30 degrees. Your owner’s manual will show you how to do this, but it usually just involves pushing and holding individual buttons down at the same time.
Oven won’t turn on
Usually, the central unit in a kitchen such as refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, and so on will have their circuit that prevents any breakers from flipping. But that doesn’t mean that a breaker flipping didn’t cause the problem. Go to your junction box for any flipped breakers and then make sure that the oven is plugged into the wall. Some of the most common issues with your oven not turning on is a bad wire, lousy control unit (such as bake or broil element). If your oven is a gas oven, the other problems may consist of a faulty gas controller, valve, or ignitor.
Oven light won’t turn on
If your oven light does not turn on, it might be because you have a faulty switch or something is wrong with the electronic control or connection wire. It is better to let an electrical technician solve this kind of problem because of the high risk of electrocution.
Oven will not self-clean
There are several different causes for an oven, not self-cleaning, but one of the main ones is that your oven door may not be locked. If your oven is not locked, you may want to turn on the locked switch before you try again. If, however, that doesn’t seem to be the problem, it may be a problem with the ovens temperature thermostat, the wiring, thermal fuse, or oven control board. To test the controls of this unit, you will need an experienced technician to do the job.
Grills
Grills are where the magic happens; here is where you make the delicious juicy meats. But what happens when it breaks down or stops working the way that it used to? Making sure that your grill has the maintenance it needs is essential for your company and customers. So we are here to help. These are the most common problems people find with their grills. For grills, we will be going over the main issues in gas grills because they are used the most in the commercial industry.
Weird tasting food?
If the food from your grill is starting to taste weird or have a chemical taste to it, this is an easy fix and usually doesn’t even require a technician. All you need for this is an excellent scrubber cleaning job. If you want your food tasting better than ever cleaning your grill often is suggested and lucky for you, we already wrote an article on the matter. You can click here on “How to clean your grill.” Good luck!
Broken ignitors
If your ignitor is broken and the ignition won’t light, you can call a technician. You might feel like throwing in the towel and just using a match to put a flame on your burners, but as fun, as that might seem, it’s not very safe and can be very dangerous if you end up burning your hand or flaming off your eyebrows. This job requires a professional technician, give us a call!!
Gas Smells
If you can continuously smell gas even when your stove is off, this can be a huge sign that something is wrong, and you will need to call a technician right away. Leaking gas can is a dangerous hazard and can cause harm to employees and customers if not dealt with immediately by an advanced maintenance provider.
Broken Burner?
If one of your burners is broken, it’s wise to check your warranty. Lots of ovens come with an extended warranty on burners if broken within a certain amount of time. If not, you will probably need to buy a new burner and have it replaced. But it’s better than having to cram everything to one side of the grill.
Refrigerators
Refrigerators will probably have you running into the most problems because of the various types of power operations it uses. If you are interested in knowing how a fridge works, we wrote an article on it that does a pretty good job of describing it. You can read it here, “How Does a Refrigerator work?” Anyways getting back to common problems.
Water Leaking
If your water is leaking onto the floor, this is not something that should be left unnoticed. Water will most likely be coming from a blocked defrost drain. The problem might also be coming from a frozen water supply. Both o these are usually just a mild issue and don’t need a technician if your willing to put forth a little effort. To check to see if the leaking is coming from a blocked defrost drain, you will need to locate it on the back of the wall on the freezer.
If food or debris are clogged up in the defrost drain, this might be your problem. If you want to fix this, you will need to drain the hole from the inside using some warm water. Then you will use a large item like a turkey baster to remove anything clogged in the drain. If you are still having trouble, you may need to remove the buildup yourself.
You can do this by locating the defrost drain hose that should be in the back of the servicing panel. You will need to pull your fridge away from the wall and then you will see a rubber valve. This valve is in charge of removing debris and prevents clogging. You will want to wash it using soap and running the pipe under hot water. Once you’re done with that, you can reinstall the valve.
There may still be a chance that your water supply is frozen, which could cause water to leak and make a puddle under your fridge. This will make so that the ice maker or water dispenser stops working correctly. You can fix this by unplugging the refrigerator and locating the shut off valve. It will either be under your sink, behind the fridge, below the refrigerator, in a basement, or small crawl space. Once you have found it make sure the shut-off valve gets closed and examine the plastic supply line for any problems. It might be broken or torn; if this is the case, you will need to replace the water supply line.
Incompliaent Temperature levels
If you notice that you that your refrigerator system is unable to provide the right amount of cooling, you may have a problem. But this shouldn’t be too serious of a difficulty. Things like dirty condensers and evaporator coils, wrong temperature settings, dirty fans, refrigerant leaks, or a door gasket that isn’t sealing correctly would all be the cause of this.
But compressor malfunctioning is one of the main ones that is often overlooked. Still, it could be causing severe temperature failures inside of a refrigerator and could be affecting its performance. Even though there are a lot of causes for compressor failure, having high compressor discharge temperatures is usually the most common one when it comes to a commercial fridge.
If a compressor malfunctions, it will begin to work longer and harder to maintain the temperature you set it to in the compartments, making the temperature go above the predetermined limit. After a while of doing this, it will start to cause your compressor to overheat.
Some of these problems may have been caused by dirty condenser, and evaporator coils, a leak in the discharge valve (making excessive heat generation), or an undercharge of refrigerant or false oil ration, which can point to enhanced suction temperatures.
