Window Insulation Layers
Lots of people wonder how energy efficient windows are any different than any other window. In this article, we will go over some differences between regular windows and energy-efficient windows, and how energy-efficient windows work for your home or business.
Differences Between Regular and Energy Efficient Windows
Summertime can get very hot and blazing. Most businesses get swarmed with heat, and employees start to sweat over the heat. Let’s be honest; we all know that the air conditioner ends up working in one office and not the other. This, in turn, causes multiple employees to raise and lower the air conditioning over and over again. Making your bill go up the wall.
With energy-efficient windows, you have an entirely different story. For example, windows collect energy from the temperatures surrounding them. Windows take energy from the sun’s heat and reflect it inside; this can cause heat to be unbearable.
This goes for winter as well, windows collect from the cold temperature outside and bring that same energy inside. But energy-efficient windows can help you with that, unlike regular windows energy efficient windows have more than just a single glass pane; in fact, they have multiple panes of glass that diminish the heat transfer with lining air spaces between them.
The efficiency can also be impacted if the spaces are filled with non-toxic gases like argon, krypton, and when low conductive spacers are used in the middle of the panes — making the temperature from inside stay inside and the temperature outside stay outside. Helping your bill lower and make your office more comfortable.
Do Energy Efficient Windows Save Money?
Did you know that just by having energy-efficient windows, you can be saving up to 25% on your heating bill? It’s crazy the amount of savings you can get. How? Windows are located in almost every room in your business. They also help determine the temperature and how hot or cold your thermostat should be.
Both heat and cold air can seep through the glass pane and into the building. They take the temperature outside of the glass’s pane and bring that energy on the inside. Have you ever gotten a microscope and pointed one side towards the sun and the other towards a leaf on the sidewalk? Well, if you haven’t, here’s what will happen if you do.
The energy from the sun shines into the microscope and goes through onto the leaf, which causes the leaf to burn.
The windows in your business can act as the microscope, which produces the heat flow in your business, using up way more air conditioning than needed.
How do energy-efficient windows work?
Both energy-efficient windows and other windows act as a magnet. One window pulls energy inside, and the other pushes energy away. Imagine as if you are holding two magnets in your hand. If they continue to pull towards each other, you can liken that to a regular window pulling that energy inside.
But, now, if you turn one magnet to the other side, they start to pull away from each other, each magnet going its way. When you have an energy-efficient window, it will be a combination of window panes combined into one stopping energy from reflecting into a particular area. If you want to see how that works, you can take a flashlight and 3 or 4 glass panes and try shining the light through one and then try shining the light through another and another.
The result will show that less of the lights energy will be able to pass through all of the panes of glass, which goes for hot and cold energy as well. Why is that important? If you have a window that can pull away from cold the hot and cold energy, you won’t have to raise your temperature meaning your bill doesn’t go up this next month.
