December

Whether you’re running a business or working in your kitchen at home, having appliances working as intended is a must. So why is commercial appliance repair necessary? Without repairs on your appliances, you’re stuck having to buy new appliances at a costly rate when you could have had your old appliances working for years, which means less money down the drain. Most of us don’t think about the downtime our appliances could face until something happens. Without the proper continued repair, your appliances can give out on you without warning and may even occur in the middle of a big event. Here at Touchstone Commercial Services, we understand this as much as anybody, so we’re here to give you some quick tips to help you prevent costly appliance repair, and what to do if your appliances start to malfunction.

Refrigeration Units

Clean Appliances – As much of a no-brainer as it may seem, keeping your refrigeration appliances clean interior and exterior makes a massive difference in the life of your equipment. Debris, spillage, and slug are common in refrigerators. Be sure to clean all of these out regularly to avoid blockage, which can lead to future problems. Not only will keeping up on the cleaning of your refrigerator make it last longer, but it will freshen up the scent in the room!

Check For Moisture – Be sure to keep an eye out for spills or condensation buildup in your refrigerator. Overtime spills could cause your coils to freeze up, making your fridge less effective, and ultimately failing on you.

Clean Coils – The evaporator and condenser coils are vital to your refrigerated units. To clean these, you can try using a shop vacuum and a brush. This process should be done at least once every three months.

Fryers

Clean the Combustion Fans – To prevent a breakdown in your fryer unit; you can clean out your combustion fans. This is good to do at least once a month.

Check for Gas Leaks – Every 4-6 weeks, check for possible gas leaks on your fryer hoses. A helpful tip for checking these is to spray the hoses with soapy water. If you see any bubbles appear, that means you have a leak to fix! Gas leaks can also pose a safety hazard and should be addressed immediately when found.

Ranges, Grills, and Griddles

Clean Your Burners, Flattops, and Grates – This is one of the more common tasks people perform on commercial appliances, and rightly so! Not only does cleaning these give you a better-looking kitchen, but it also stops grease from building up, keeping you away from unnecessary equipment failure.

Check Grease Filters on Overhead ExhaustGrease buildup is very common in overhead exhaust systems. You should make a habit of checking yours often to make sure the airflow is not being restricted. If an excess of grease is found when you’re inspecting the exhaust, be sure to get the filter replaced!
