October

Ovens tend to be the last thing on the list when it comes to deep cleaning your kitchen, and sometimes just gets forgotten. Let’s be honest cleaning your oven is a tough job. But what if there was a more natural way to clean your oven with less effort, faster. Well, there is! We’ve put together the steps for the fastest way to clean your oven. Ovens should be cleaned at least once every three to six months to ensure that no unwanted smoke or dust builds up in your food. Keeping your oven clean can help improve the quality of your oven.

Start by gathering your supplies

The supplies below are everything you need to clean your oven. Do not use harsh chemicals that may get into your food. There are some types of food-safe oven cleaners that you can buy that you can use if you would like. The following items are perfect for cleaning your oven and will make it super easy, but feel free to add or replace any items you don’t like with supplies you’d rather use. Most of these items you will most likely already have in your home.

  • Rubber gloves
  • Scrubber Sponge
  • Baking soda
  • Warm water
  • Metal bowl
  • Vinegar
  • Liquid detergent (use on oven grates only, dish soap works fine)

Cleaning oven grates

Cleaning the grates in your oven is super easy. Even when oven grates get filled with grease, grime, and food you can still make cleaning as easy as baking a pie.

Instructions

  1. Fill up your tub or a large bin with hot soapy water. (You can use liquid detergent or dish soap for this step)
  2. Place a few towels at the bottom of the tub.
  3. Let oven grates sit for 2 hours
  4. Using a bristle brush, scrub off any grime that is still stuck to the grates.
  5. Dry grates off and set them to the side.

Cleaning the inside of your oven

Not many people get around to cleaning their oven, but it’s important for the health of your family or service. To do this to the best of your ability, make sure to follow each one of these steps. If you have a bigger oven and you need to double the amount of baking soda and water, you can.

Instructions:

  1. Take a metal bowl or container and add 3 cups of baking soda with 1 cup of water.
  2. Mix it around until it makes a paste.
  3. Using a rubber scraper or type of spoon, rub the paste inside the oven on the parts you want to clean.
  4. Let it sit for about 30 minutes.
  5. Take your scrubber sponge and dip it into straight vinegar.
  6. Scrub off all the grime and dirt remains on the sides and bottom of your oven.
  7. Dip your scrubber into vinegar before each scrub
  8. Finish up with a damp towel and clean out any leftover dirt or grime.

Cleaning the screen in your oven

  1. Get a fly swatter or other type of skinny metal object and wrap a paper towel around the end.
  2. Open the bottom drawer of your oven
  3. Begin placing a paper towel in between the crack of your glass.

Some ovens have a self-cleaning mode that is done with the press of a button. This usually involves heating the oven with high temperature until any leftover food or grime burns away into the air, this could be a more natural solution but consists of a lot of extra smoke and doesn’t smell very good. Cleaning your stove with the method above might take up more time, but it will benefit you much more in the long run.
